Iota Iota Lambda

The Ithaca Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

More than 175,000 men have joined the ranks of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., since its founding at Cornell University in 1906. Alpha is a global brotherhood with chapters located throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Africa.

The Fraternity recognizes two types of membership - college and alumni. Iota Iota Lambda is an alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, and individuals seeking alumni-level membership into the Fraternity must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:

  • Possess an earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Be a man of good character
  • Be registered to vote, if eligible and qualified
  • Be sponsored and recommended by members in good standing from the chapter in which the candidate is seeking membership (in this case, Iota Iota Lambda - The Ithaca Alumni Chapter)

Importantly, Alpha Phi Alpha has abolished "pledge lines" and prohibits hazing activities on the part of any current or aspiring member. Alpha Phi Alpha joins other fraternities, sororities, parents and academic institutions in the fight against hazing. More information about the Fraternity's stance against hazing, and a copy of our anti-hazing statement and anti-hazing policy, can be found here.
